BOV/cooler piping questions

Just a couple of questions, I'm almost up to the stage of repiping my intercooler and need some opinions.

Can I weld my blow off valve onto the intercooler end tank? I figure functionally its exactly the same as being on a pipe, but I've never seen it done before.

What is the best way to prepare a alloy pipe for a silicon hose? A bead of weld, flaring the end, or a flare a cm from the end?

Any opinions welcomed :)

bov works best closest to tb

Welding to the end tank can be done depends on how the intercooler was built from wat ive been told some intercoolers(usualy stockies) include some sort of glue and yea when u weld it the glue melts or somthing, just wat ive heard..

Its a custom cooler with a nice large flat area on the end tanks, would be heaps easier to cut a hole in that and have my rb25det adapter welded to that than to have it welded to a 2" pipe (i'm thinking cheaply here ) I realise they work best close to TB, but I've seen them on the turbo side a lot so I'm sure 20cm wont make a huge difference.

If I "dont touch" the piping will it not just blow off under boost????

Ive seen bov off valves mounted directly to an end tank and dont see why it would affect the way it functions as this is what wrx's and gtir pulsars have from standard. As far as piping go's definalty have a few beads of weld or have a exhaust shop roll a lip on your piping a was forever blowing of hose's until a had it done

unless ur runing huge boost the pipes will be fine i have nothing on mine and have run 18 psi before with just normal hose clamps, as long as theres a fair 20-30mm inside the hose it will be cool. as for the i/c mounted bov if ypoure going to do it make sure u stop swarf getting into the core coz its going to be hard to see whether its all out id steer clear myself, and just not have a bov never had any problems without one and makes a tough sound too.

i havent blew 1 yet and i have a twin turbo v8 and a turbo 4banger(datsun)

and the coolers this guy is talking about are mounted on top of engine close to tb

ive seen them in the wrong possition before such as on other side of cooler
depends if you want for looks or performance

cheers for the replies, swarf shouldnt be a problem if I'm careful about it.

I'm not going to run it with no bead, I was just wondering which is the best way. I was planning to just put a little flare on the end with a cone/ball shaped object slightly larger than 2", but was worried about the alloy pipe cracking rather than flaring...
