Just after some info, how do you tell a r30 stumpy skyline box from a another type of r30 gearbox, do they just cum from a 4 cylinder r30?

"stumpy" 5 speeds are noticably shorter than any other datsun L series 5 speed, as far as I know they only come out in L24 (6 cylinder) powered mr30 skylines. Hope this helps.

Stumpy boxes came in the 6cyl r30 as well as 720 4wd utes. Z powered navaras also have a very similar version, but they have a shifter housing like that of a silvia/ r31/ vl and later style gearbox. I beleive they are also available from the later ca powered bluebirds.
They are identified by their length. The shifter sits practically on top of the rear output shaft. They are around the 65 cm mark in length where the longer boxes are are around the 80cm mark.
Hope this helps

The pintara comes with a long box like that of a silvia. You can put it in the 1200 ute but you will have to move the shifter hole and the handbrake cable toward the rear to suit.

MR30 skylines (early 80s) which are 6 cylinder have the stumpy 5 speed. Pintara's were never made then. the Pintara the your refering to is the R31.

Hope this clarifies it for you.

Adam.
