help with shaving tray lip

im after any pics tips or info on shaving the hooks n lip on my 85 ute.. im not gonna grind the tray n back of the cab all of in 1 go as i think it makes it harder welding n getting evrythink str8 in the end( i will b doin a few inches at a time ie grind tack grind tack) ..just need some help on how 2 finish it off after i grind n tack it all together (will b fully welded though) the main problem i have is the back of the cab

any info will b gr8

patience... you will get an answer soon...

I haven't done what you want to, but I know that those hooks are easy to get off you just drill out the two spot welds that hold them on, dont need to drill much just enough to get threw the weld.

I know thats not what your after but may help you a little.

check the pics in my profile cmy_1200. i have the lip and hooks shaved. cant help with how it was done tho cause it was like that when i got it.

dont be scared to give it a go.

i just cut the whole thing of in one go i do regret not fitting extra bracing under the top part before i high filled the lip tho. i expect it to crack but there maybe some ways around it.
theres a few picks in my photos aswell

yeah thats what mine is lacking. its cracked a little bit. make sure you have a good spraypainter. cause my paint has lifted just under where the lip has been cut off

yeah i know what you mean.. im honestly thinking about doing the whole thing again and going sr20turbs. just talking to my engineer at the moment to try work stuff out. moneywise its probably a long way off tho

yeah i got a m8 painting it hes been painting cars 4 nealy 20yrs so he should know whats hes doin.. its gonna be metallic teal green with mayb some white pinstriping on the tailgate. just like the shaved look but im bit iffy when it comes 2 behind the cab. when all the lip is cut off is there much of a gap left or is it just a mill or 2 that has 2 b welded?

there is no gap it mates up perfectly, beware the side panels are quite thin.
