Ahhhh, South Africa. We have a number of good members over there so hopefully that will make themselves known to you.
In South Africa the 1200 passenger models [Model B110] were continued in production untill 1976 or '77 instead of being replaced by the 120Y type car [Model B210].
The new engine design with the distributor at the back was introduced to the rest of the world in 1974, but one South African member has the original front distributor engine [early type] in his 1976 built car, so one of two possibilities exist.
You have a very late built car that got the new engine when stocks of the old one ran out. [assuming that such an event actually occurred]
You have a car into which a later engine has been switched.
Compare the engine number on the engine itself with the engine number stamped into the vehicle ID tag in the engine bay to see if you have the original one.
The seemingly common Bakkie uses the same basic engine that you have, so if you are missing a dipstick, try sourcing one from just about any wrecker that has these models. The early dipstick is actually a round section rod & as we know, is 10" long from the rubber flange to the end.
The later dipsticks tend to be made from flat material & are a fair bit longer than 10"
Hopefully that helps.
