Short answer, No

Long answer,
If you accelerate gently, dont drop the clutch, and are generally really easy on it. no towing and no load bearing then yeah perhaps, yeah PERHAPS!

but then thats not the reason that you want to use a V8.

If anything it would have to be the smallest that you can get. The 3.5l rover v8, 289 winsor maybe, or at most a 253 (my personal favorite).

Remember its the torque not the ponies that kill drivelines.

yep i agree.. there is no point putting a v8 in a dato with stanard parts and expect it to drive like a brand new car.. if your going to go with that much trouble putting a v8 in there why not put driveline gear that can handle it..

otherwise it will hold you back from using the full potential of a v8.. if your worried about the cost then don't bother doing it.. thats just wat i think though up to you if it works..

not to sure wat pigdog has in his v6 ute but i think that he can tell yah if its worth it.. maybe

I think they are saying don't do anything until you can do the whole conversion, i.e. engine, diff, fuel system, brakes etc etc etc.

But it's up to you, your car your decisions. You'll be the one driving it!

I just thought of a question related to this.

What sort of gearboxes have you heard or seen being used in V8 Datto's? are most people going for the autos or are people doing things like W58 Supra 5 speeds?
