hey every one i am in a bit of a dilema about engine choices for the 1000 coupe as i have a built a12 with 5 speed but i want more power but want to keep it legal and modernise it i have read some where about the cr14de engine and the cga3de engine as these seem the easiest lightest choice but was wondering if it would be worth while putting a sr16ve into it or is it to big and heavy aslo i am open to any decisions towards choice of engine but it must be a nissan motor much help would be appreciated

This is bound to get 1000 different opinions. What sort of budget do you have? Is it just a daily driver with a little go?
I reckon stick with the A series (a14/15) since it is the eaisest change over, eaisest to get licensed, cheapest option, and it keeps it as close to standard as you can get as far as engine upgrades go.
You dont really need to change anything else either to get the A14/15 in, where as anything else would need at least a brake upgrade, though i would reccommend this anyways.

yeah go the a15 option. i have driven a fairly standard a15 in my mates 1200 ute and it went well, that was until the ca18 bug caught on. in a 1000 coupe it would be a riot.
have fun

Well unless you go a FWD engine and adapt a tranny to suit you dont have too much choise! CA and SR are too tall, 4AGE fit, Rotary?
Or go a V6? Either a commo V6(yuck) or a SOHC VG30? Would require a bit of modification but would go like #### off a shovel!

I run an a15 with 1200 gx head with 40 mm webbers producing 130 f/w h/p in my race 1000 coupe. If you want to update from an A series the best would be a toyota 4age n/a or turbo. I no its not nissan but they are small and produce good power. Cheers Mark (Mopar)

Go a series and at least the 5 speed will bolt straight on

The 1k has such a shallow engine bay that engine options that fit under the bonnet are limited.
If you could stuff a VG30 under there it would be awsome, but forget about cornering, It would be far too heavy i would imagine.
V6 dunnydore motors arnt that bad i reckon. They have proven themselves as reasonabley reliable over the years, but again far too heavy, unless you get a new alloytec unit...
Dattoman1000 is working on a CA18 into his 1k, but the mods list is massive, and its a LONG term project.
Easy options, if the A series isnt a go, then a 4AGZE i hate to admit it, again if it fits.
The E15/16 mates up to the gearbox without too much pain and fit in aratently. Topgear i think did a test fit into a 1k and it should work with some fiddling.

The only 5 speed that will "bolt straight in" is the 56A gearbox & these should really be used only behind the short stroke engines as they don't handle too much punnishment from the long stroke torquers.
The trans tunnel in a 1000 is a very tight squeeze too so not only will you need to remove the original gearbox mounts under the floor & make new ones but also perform some tunnel reshaping in those areas where even a 60 series interferes.
The B10 series has a lower bonnet line & a crossmember with a spring in it that prevents any lowering of the engine in this area, so you need an engine that isn't too tall & double cammers do tend to be a bit that way. Much as I hate the thought of interbreeding, the fact is that Toyo-yoyo somehow accidentally managed to make a very good 1600 double cammer that looks pretty compact & just might fit, if your determined to use something other than the mechanically perfect A series.
