Looking through the forum seening that a few guys have cut away the original radiator supports to make way for intercoolers,

question i ask is, Must/do you check with your local engineer person if ok to do so, or just start cutting away?,.....

The thing is the name "SUPPORT" isnt that what it is just a support the rad nothing else or sumthing to do with the structure with the chassis!!?

What brand radiator & intercooler is required that suits these 1200's,.....

Always check with an engineer to see if what you plan to do is ok. All you hear on forums is hearsay. If you check with an engineer you will have 100% certainty on whatever issue you're asking about.

As for what brand of cooler/radiator. I think a fair few people are running ebay type arrangements. PWR can make stuff to whatever size you want if you need a special size but I think they would make both in pretty regular sizes. Otherwse you could see a fabrication type business like plazmaman or mood motorsports. They would be able to hook you up.

Buy a cheapie eBay 'cooler. Ours cost less than $100, 450x300x76 to fit behind the grille, and it's of a reasonable quality.

In regards to cutting, the rad support is very important within the integrity of the vehicle. You have to maintain the vertical bar in the centre (you can cut it out and bend up a stronger one) and any sections you cut out need to have the edges rolled to stop flex. Most engineers will want you only to cut what you need to fit the 'cooler.

if you're going to put a turbo on (by the book) you should have already consulted with your engineer.

i cut majority of the rad. support out of my ute and ran a pice of 1" box section along the top and used 1"x6mm flat to make rad mounts out of, running the total length from top to bottom. there was plenty of room to fit the intercooler after this. Chances are the supports/brackets i'm running are stronger than the thin piece of metal originally there (although this is open for opinions)...

this photo shows the piece of 1" box section and everything else...
