SR20de into 120y

Hey Guys, just after some info for a potential conversion I'm considering.

Apart from the obvious fuel and brake upgrades, what parts are required to put a SR20de into a RHD 120y?

Would you use a reversed 180b engine crossmember and control arms, or is the stanza or similiar the go?

How about clutch and brake master cylinders, what are people using?

Radiators? (assuming S13 gear may fit).

Thanks

Martin

I think that MADDAT is working on a new Xmember to suit. Personally I think that the best way is to use your own Xmember and mod it to suit. Then you will have less problems than others that use the 180B Xmember. Bump steer etc.

To mount the L18 in my 120Y I Ground off the origional mounts and welded on the mounts from a stanza to retain the origional front bowl sump and retain all origional steering geometry. As a result I have no bump steer through corners. Score. Different conversion I know but the principles benind it are the same.

Good luck. Pick a price that you expect to do it with and then tripple it.

I don't recall the 180B x-memebr introducing any bump steer problems when used in a 120Y. It was a long time ago that I did it, but it is the kind of thing I would check. I'll have a quick measure tonight if I can find the 180B x-member in the shed.

Thanks for the input guys, not really interested in purchasing a maddat kit, but the modifying of the original mounts to stanza mounts does interest me, as the SR has a front facing sump, so there is a chance it will fit just with modded mounts on the stock crossmember.

One thing I'm not sure of is it the gbox bellhousing will clear steering components.

A friend of a friend does own an SR20DET 120y (aqua one), engineered in nsw along time ago, so I might try and get in touch with him to see how the conversion was done.

I also have a spare 180b front end from my old coupe I wrecked, and I would have though that the length of the 180b control arms would give wider track etc. Any bump steer issue introduced could be countered with some bump steer spacers, so not a major issue.

Anyone got any input on radiator choices or clutch/brake masters?

Wow, is your mate dave miransky?

Does the car have a ford 9inch diff? just trying to work out if we are referring to the same car.

When you say crossmember mods, do you mean just engine mounts, or was there something else involved?

Cheers for the other info though!

I will be starting to work on a full fitting kit soon, just picked up a four door today for the jigging up.

I'll keep you all posted on the progress.

Cheers Scott
