Ok well I have a s14 sr20de in my datsun 1200 coupe. LHD. So yeah I wanted to do a in-tank style pump from a s13 or z31 chassis and weld top of tank for a fuel pump deal and all that. Well coupe tanks are really short! Well I have to use a inline instead but oh well! The feed line from tank is only 1/4 inch!! You have got to be kidding me! I need at least 5/16ths. Here is what I ended up doing.

The Original 1/4 inch feed line cut off!

Pic of tank with it cut off and sanded area!

Pic of inside of tank after i cut the 1/4 inch feed line that goes to bottom of tank.

top cut off from tank for access hole.

New 5/16ths feed line ready for trail fit.

5/16ths feed line fitting in stock location.

Inside of tank where need feed line drops to bottom of tank.

What looks like the start of my baffle box!

Baffle box test fiit. keep in mind that I made this work with stock fuel tank sending unit still :)

Another shot of baffle box in place. I drill 2 holes in lower part of box so fuel can fill into box when it is lower then the walls of the baffle box.

Pic of fluid in tank. I did this to mainly test for leaks on my new 5/16ths feed line. The original feed is braised on so i braised this one also.

Top tacked back in place ready for welding.

Welded up and finished. I'm going to paint the tank btw... no point in having something out of the car and put it back in all crusty.

So this took a couple of hours but i think it will be well worth it in the long run and i believe it will keep me from having fuel starvation under hard acceleration and high g turning. So now i hook up a inline filter before my 280zx inline fuel pump and a line to fuel rail. then from rail back to a return line! I wanted to post on how i went about doing it to see if there is any other methods people have used. I hope it works.. I'm not opening that tank again I WILL TELL YOU THAT !! LOL. Oh i will do a surge tank if I have issues.

If I knew what I was doing I'd do an in tank pump myself....

Thanks for the pics too.

Thanks... I have never done this type of mod. If i had a sedan the tank is more like a datsun 510 or 1600 or whatever. Its easier to do it to the taller tank.. well you will still need a baffle type box to let pump settle inside of in tank. I looked at a stock 200sx/s13/silvia/240sx whatever its called in all these countries lol. It looked like a miniature swimming pool in there that had 1 hole in it for fuel to flow in.

Nice job!

what you do for tank prep prior to cutting open with a grinder. I don't think I'd be anxious to tackle that for fear of blowing myself & the shop up!

What about seam seam for the weld so it won't leak through the weld?

I marked it off and used a cut off wheel. I filled tank with water after i drain gas before i cut into it. then i darined water and whipped it out with a rag. I think putting some type of sealer around my weld on the outside wouldn't be a bad idea. I don't think it will be leaking. :)
