Just wondering...

Im going to need a few new gauges and stuff if it doesnt sell in order to pass roadworthy.

I was thinking a 3mm aluminium plate, divide it into 3 sections, cover it in a carbonfibre look film and place the gauges in from there.

Then it comes to gauge choice... i know everyone is going to have a different opinion but i took a mates 180sx for a drive and he had a hsot of defi gauges and they were fantastic to look at, day and night time and seemed responsive.

The other i was thinking was auto meter gauges but i know they cost an arm and a leg and a pain to find one that ahs KM/H and celcius...

How do you think those black defi gauges would look on a carbon fibre background?

The gauges im chasing would be:

-Fuel
-Fuel Pressure
-Tacho (5" size?)
-Speedo (5" size?)
-Boost
-Water Temp
-Oil Temp
-Oil Pressure

Any thoughts/comments?

if your going genuine defi guages they will cost more than autometer ones. unless you just get the dodgy brand ones. i would say get

speedo
fuel quantity
tacho
boost if turboed
oil pressure
water temp/ or oil temp

fuel pressure is only needed once to set it similar to air fuel ratio

Thats what i thought too, defi gauges were more expensive. You could always look on eBay too. Might find some good deals.

Does anybody know the prices of auto meter ones? I have a mate that can get defi ones for $150 each... im not sure if thats good or not.

And would sumone be able to tell me what good is recall on a tacho?

Personally i dont like the big ugly shift light and other bits on it, just a plain unit

It's in USA but if you know what you're after and can organise shipping then it could be a good option.

Do the Auto Meter gauges need a control box like the defi? i suppose it depends on if its an electrical or analogue right?

Whats the most accurate to go for?

there much of a muchness with accuaracy. youll find that you wont have much choice with the types as they are all pretty much set for what there needs are like boost will be mechanical 99% of the time same as temp will be electrical, you would find that the speedo will be electrical aswell. i dont like talking up other websites but try boostcruising for the autogage (not autogauge) brand defi style ones theres a guy named benny in the sponsered section he sells them for about 30 each

I dont need a control unit like the defis though do i?

I'm not 100% sure on others but I was told no mechanical oil pressure gauge is allowed in the car, because if you have a leak or a line splits in the car you could get nice hot oil all over yourself. I guess the same rule would apply to the other ones like fuel and water. If you can only get the mechanical ones, you can have them setup on the cowl panel like some of the older muscle cars have, just an idea.
I have all Autometer gauges in my car and I searched around buying them when I saw them cheap on ebay and the like, the only two that I bought from a store were the KPH speedo and the in-dash Tacho without shift light, which had to be ordered, and also killed my bank balance

Did your speedo have an odometer and trip meter in it as well?

I can believe the price though, what did you pay if you dont mind me asking and where did you find them?
