anyone (frankthedolphintrainer) who can tell me what they did with the small vent hole on the front of the 32/36 when they made a blowthrough carby setup. its the hole that is about 8mm diam and it looks like it allows air onto the top of the airjets/emul. tubes.

i plugged it up because it would let all my compressed air back out to atmosphere and now i am experiencing fuel starvation issues after hitting boost once.

what have people done?

it's not one of the brass barbs? or where a brass bard like the fuel inlet looks like it should go?

sometimes they have blocked outlets which are otherwise used for a return line

it sounds like it's already blocked otherwise you would have fuel pouring out of there

there is no breather to the outside of the carb there

a photo would really help

or there are plenty of 32/36 photos on the site so find one and explain which hole your talking about

Do you have a rising rate fuel pressure regulator and how much pressure is your fuel pump capable of putting out? You need at least 4psi of fuel pressure higher than boost pressure at all times or you will force the fuel back.

that is an overflow you must have too much pressure from the reg, i cant say i had this problem with the carb that i used. it could also be that you have made the hole too big when youve drilled it. if you get what i mean. or the seals are on the way out?

Is a VL fuel pump safe to use given that they put out so much pressure? I would have thought that they were only good for EFI

i didnt even notice that...your using a efi pump. these pumps are not designed for that range. you will find as you reduce the pressure you flow will decrease aswell starving the carby. you will need to get a high flow low psi fuel pump. the one i used was a carter black it can be used within the range of 4-18 psi so your rising rate range will be set at 4 when not on boost and then rise at a ratio of 1.1:1(if its the malpassi) up to the peak boost. so if your using say 10 psi the total pressure will be 15psi at the carby.

welcome to the world of expenisve unreliable noisy fuel pumps

you cant use the efi pump

you need a carter or a holley blue/black etc with a regulator

the 32/36 is terible for spitting its gaskets out under boost too

been there.... didnt last long before i went efi

are you boxing the entire carby? i would say that is the only way to go if you can figure out a good way for the accelerator cable to still work in a box you will do well

the idea of a fuel pressure regulator is to regulate pressure, no?

well if i use a pump (the one i got the other day is faulty, i tested the pressure at the pump output and got nothing) to supply fuel at any pressure, will the regulator not supply enough fuel to the carby at the designated pressure (say 4psi, so long as it's not higher than what the pump is capable of supplying) and return the rest to the tank via the return line.

i believe that the problem is not within the carby itself but the fuel supply. i am glad to have found that the hole i was worried about is just an overflow. i am also glad to have tested the fuel pump and found it was buggered (and still under warranty). i will fit a new pump tomorrow and see if the problem persists. if so then i will try a new pump.

one thing i haven't mentioned in this thread is that i did drive the ute around the block once without any hassles, but now i only get to the first corner. i am hopeful that with a new pump, filter and fresh tank of fuel i will be trouble free.
