No Chris thats right, all the earlys came 3 on the tree
Not quite 100% right it would seem.
All of the 1967 models that I have personally seen came with the 3 speed & this remained an available trans option right through 1200 production too, although the 3 speed was not seen in Aussie spec cars after the 1967 model year.
The four speed was an available option for the 1967 model & I believe that the car that Lagwagon had was one of these.
It had a later grille, but the early steering wheel & a 4 speed. He sent me the chassis number & it was most definately a 1967 model car. From correspondence with him it looks like it came from the factory as a 4 speed.
It would seem that the vast majority of Aussie spec 1967 cars were 3 speed but some 4 speed models came in as well.
I can hardly imagine that the Class 'A' winning 1967 Datsun 1000 at Bathurst in '67 had a 3 on the tree.
