Well, the car is all jacked up. All bolts off bell housing, Dive shaft gone and I have trans pushed back about3 inches. The book tells me to keep a jack under the trans to support it as I slid it back. 1 problem, the shifter inside the car is not letting me push the tranny back anymore. Its inches away from being off. Anything Im doing wrong?

Yes, the shifter needs to be removed. Just remove the side nut and the pin bolt slides out, then lift the shifter up.

you might have to take the shifter out, just so you can move the gearbox back far enough. The shifter is easily removed, bolt and nut at the base of the shifter.

hope this helps

Edit: Damn you dd, you beat me!

Could just be me being HELLA tired. I'm not a big guy, this took alot outta me lol.

I really looking at my options now, try and find parts to repair it with the help of someone that have experience on rebuilding them for locating one from a yard. We are bone dry in Vancouver when it comes to datsun parts.

Looks like a Datsun 1200 4-speed, and not the rarer Datsun 1000 model. These were used through 1982 in Canada and are not too difficult to find.

Are you coming to Canby in two weeks? Probably someone can give you a good 4-speed for free or low cost.

You might also post a question on VIDE - Vancouver Island Datsun Enthusiasts -- there are LOTS of Datsun parts on the Island.

Hi Kent,

Canby is the largest Datsun/Nissan show in North America. It is June 14 & 15, in Oregon.
Details: club wiki: Canby

Lots of BC people are coming.

David
