Hey there fellow datsun owners,

I'm using a daily drive datsun 1200 1980 ute atm. And I was just really curious, what happens if I put my 4-speed gearbox into '5th' while driving. I've never attempted it before because I had no idea if i would do nothing at all, or damage my trans.

Just curious,
Thanks in advance :D

NOTE: I checked it, i have 5 gears! woot.

hehe it takes more than that to get my panties in a twist :D :D

speaking of distributors though, whenever it's wet at night (like rain, or driving near the ocean when the wind blows mist across the land), i get some misfiring problems. Is that most likely a problem with my distributor arching?

Anyways, haha,
I bought my first datsun 1200. And when i was playing around in the driveway I noticed that i could put my gearbox into 'fifth' position. Now i knew that the stock gearbox should be 4 speed. So i thought nothing of it and just assumed it was just some sort of 'phantom' gear. And i never had the nerve to try it out on the road because i had no idea what it would do (better to be a safe fool than a dangerous adventurer sometimes :D)

But now i think in my cars past a previous owner has upgraded it to a 5 speed.

So assuming i'm wrong and it's still 4 speed. There's nothing that can go wrong if i put it into it's '5th' position?

Cheers.

I'll try it out tomorrow. It's too late tonight.

Stick it in 5th and see what happens. I knew a bloke who bought a grouse FJ holden in the early 90's and drove it for about 3 years before he lent it to a mate for a drive. Old mate comes back from the drive and says"that is smooth to drive with the celica 5 speed" and Mick says"5 speed? It doesnt have a 5 speed does it? I thought it had the wrong gear nob fitted!" Apparrently the bloke who sold it to Mick was Hungover and FORGOT to mention that it had a 5 speed fitted.

Don't laugh,a couple of years ago there was a 120Y at the local council abandoned vehicle auctions,a bit of a dunger but all there...I set my limit at $40.00(i wanted the mags it had)it slowly went to $30 and stopped..i go $35..some prick jumps in at $40..my limit#?..bugger go one more $45 and i WIN!.Get it on the trailer and drag it home.In the process of putting it on stands and pulling it to pieces we note the gearbox looks a little odd at the back??Back in side and sure enough a 5 speed, who would have thought,my mate was dirty for weeks
