Big news! After 7 years of this awesome track being closed, there is now a Sprint Championship at Lakeside!

Lakeside has the highest average speed of any track in Australia! Its 2.41km of fast flowing undulating track that will challenge you and inspire you to keep coming back to master the place!
There are 4 rounds, one of which is already gone - it was last Saturday. The remaining rounds are to be held before they close the track for refurb at the end of Oct. So if you want to run the classic Lakeside, this is your last chance!
They are going to resurface the track before the start of next year, widen it and "change the cambers", which has me a little worried. Lakeside has a couple of great camber changes at the exit of the Carousell and Hungry corners that really are a big part of its character. There's not many things better in all the motorsport I've done than hitting those camber crests with the car setup right on the edge as you approach them and get light and a bit sideways over them, gripping up again right near the ripple strips - if you get it right! If you get it wrong, and many have it can be a rather different story... And I fear with all their talk about improving track safety, these corners are going to be smoothed out to suit the lowest common denominator and make the track nice and safe for newbies, instead of challenging for drivers...

So get in quick and sample the real Lakeside, the way it was supposed to be before they change it forever.
Its really not for the inexperienced though - the place can bite you if you don't know what you're doing. In the few events since it reopened at the end of February, I've seen 3 cars written off there.
Next round is August 10. and the remaining rounds are September 21 and October 19. AASA licence required, and entry costs $99 prepaid or $129 on the day.
Cars have to be road registered (or registerable) and pass noise tests - 92db stationary at 5000rpm at 8m, and 101db flyby on the main straight. Basically as long as you don't have a sidepipe or straight-thru muffler you should be OK. There were a couple of stripped out trailer sailors out there on Saturday so I think the only thing they really care about is the noise restrictions.
Maybe some of you southerners should come up and have a crack at a real racetrack!
