Datsun diesels

the 620 came with a diesel, not sure of the engine number
the 720 came with the Z22 diesel. 2l diesel 4 cyclinder. Gutless as, but we triend to kill it and it kept going. bomb proof but damn slow

The later Navaras all came with 4 cyclider desels as well.

Just remember that a diesel weighs significantly more than the a12...

Z22 was a petty.

They had the SD25 i think, well i know thats a navara motor anyways. The older diesels are cast iron and arnt the best for economy nor emissions. Try to find the newest small 4cyl turbo diesel you can. The new euro stuff is great! But designed to survive for 5yrs then to be put in the bin!

Chris

From memory the SD series of diesels from Nissan are the later stuff, ie the Navaras and patrols.
ie SD25, SD33, SD35 though the latter two are 6 cyclinders.

The Z series diesels were the early stuff.
There was infact a period of time between the last of the 620 (2wd version) and the 2wd Navaras. Nissan actaully used a falcon ute the XD I think. Yuk!

But i agree with Beattie on this, the early stuff was pretty crappy, but if you are making biodiesel then the conversion might be worth it.

I hope you don't think that you just pour vegetable oil in the tank & drive off.
I have a mate in country NSW who went into this in detail & eventually built & set up his own refining plant. He produces up to 100 litres a week, but spends, collectively, pretty much a day refining the fuel & it involves the use of, among other things, methanol in the refining process.
The oil needs to be washed & dried & filtered & chemically altered & blended to make it completely suited to the diesel engine.

He runs his farm truck as well as his lighting plant on it & it costs him about 25% of the pump price plus, collectively, most of a a days work to produce enough to support his needs.
