ecu discussion

Folks

Have been looking at ECUs for my daisy, and its all a little confusing. I found the above thread, and it talks about only fuel control.

I want something to do sequestial injection, multi coil control and turbo capable. Basicaaly I want it to do everything.

Been looking at micro tech and it seems that this is one for the job

microtech web site

What should i be asking at the shops to get the right advice. I must be asking at the wrong places cause as soon as you mention anything other than ford/holden/valient or modern jap cars they ignore you.

Also does anyone have a link that lists the histroy of microtech EMS computers, as in which models came first.

megasquirt II v3 its fuel, spark and turbo capable can be setup for just about anything, plus there is an online forum and heaps of tech stuff on there site to help you out with it
its cheaper then the others thing is you have to put it together or you can buy it complete on ebay motors and you have to import it into australia but thats easy im going to be running this computer already imported the computer and a couple of other bits for it i just have to put it together

Yeah looked a little at the mega squirt, and my skill level with electronics is not that flash so i have strayed away from them.

Also, as far as tuning efi and turbos, well I have no idea. Are most tuning shops able to use megasquirt?

id say so shouldnt be much differnt to the other computers you download the tuning software for free and you can tune it your self if you have a reall good look on there forums ask some questions, you will be able to give it a tune that will probably have it running and driveable

hmmmm, I had a quick look on fleabay, but I didnt find any megasquirt units.
Ill try again tommrrow to see what they are worth, but considering a brand spankers microtech is $1000, which is a lot but isnt compared to others, the megasquirt better be hell cheap cause I would have to put in that much of my own time.

Still it warrents some more research.

Any other opinions peoples?

i recently bought a megasquirt from the us $400 landed with harness. that is for the kit. it is not capable of running multi coil set up. it is great for the home guy but tuners will not like it as it is quite limited in capabilities.

a couple of suggestions...
dont call them ems(engine management systems) as this is a brand. car computers are refered to as ecu. i run an ems on my a series. it is very good. i would strongly recogmend this over microtech. it is more versatile. i have experience with both manufacturers.

since your in perth feel free to ring me (no. in profile) and you can come check out my stuff and have a bit of a chat.

megasquirt 2

thats a bit complicated.

a computers wealth is in its tunability, not in the functions it has. how many load points, processor speed. how quickly and precise it takes measurements and responds and is able to respond. does that make sense? eg a computer measures manifold pressure. they can vary from 2 points (pos and neg) to maybe 6 or 8. the more measuring points there are the more precise and effective the tune can be.
