was watching SBS lastnight and i noticed on topgear they had a challenge involving a 120y up against British Leyland's best(hahahahahahaha! ) and the 120y win with flying colours! it was good veiwing!

but i so like the dolomite.... looked tougher than a 120y thats for sure (trb012, tyrie and gino 120y excepted currently)

Yeah I saw it, I am a fan of the dolamite, but nothing top's a datsun!! HAHAHA!

Yeah was funny as made me pround to be a y owner lol

if anything its a testimate to the reilability of our beloved datsun's! espeically compared to the other 70's built cars built in other countries.
it was interesting what James May said 'this was the car that showed our fathers that you could get a reliable car' although many people mock the humble 120y and say that its the ugliest car ever produced, this maybe true but it has actually been proven to be highly reliable with all its 69hp! to me thats the most important thing when it comes to motoring, you don't want to constantly have your hand in your pocket constantly breaking down and forking out hard earned dollars on fixing stupid things that aren't reliable.

I would have been interested to see the 120y filled with water to see how good the japanese built them! we all know that it would have faired pretty well, although i wouldn't be able to stomach the unwillful destruction of an 1motoring icon! would've made good tv though!!

The only reason the 120Y wasn't filled with water is that the Datsun wouldn't leak, [unlike British cars , water and oil and any other fluid].

The show only goes for an hour and the 120Y would be still circulating the test track with its awsome fuel ecomomy. ha ha

Does anyone know when th austailian Topgear is going to air? i saw the post that had a member of this forum try out(can't remember who exactly), the link to the preview on the SBS website was good! A dato 1000 would've been good on topgear!
