The rust has returned in my pillars for the 2nd time. Has anyone thought to cut the pillars out, and have one shaped and welded in? One that wont let the water pool. It would be easier with
a ute I guess, as there is a chassis and if U have a roll bar, it would not have to be as strong as if it were a coupe or sedan. If anyone has done it before, even if not on a 1200, I would
like to hear from U.

thanx

Rust in the pillars?
Around the windscreen rubber? The centre piller?
This kind of rust is unusual. I haven't seen too many 1200s with this problem. The windscreen rubber rust is common for poor datsuns that live life outside a garage. Especially if the
windscreen hasn't be refitted regularly to protect against leaks due to rubber shrinkage due to prologed exposure to the sun. Some Datsun's will always suffer from rust cancer due to too
much time in the sun/rain etc.
If you use some kind of bracing mechanism to maintain structural integrity, while replacing the section, then the pillars could be replaced by someone who is good with a migwelder. But
be careful and neat, so that the police/Traffic Authority doesn't get wise to your mods..
