Hi dear friends...

I come to you once more with a question...

People have always told me that it is very dificult to remove the front windsheild...that due to the design of the windsheild rubber the probability is the the windsheild will crack...

My question is...

Is it possible to remove the windsheild without damaging the weather strip...and if so...lay down some tips...what is the best way to take it out?

Peace...

Datsun 1200 windshield fits like most other from 60s -- no more difficult to remove than a Ford or GM windshield that uses the same type of rubber.

The glass shops like to reuse the old seal, they don't like new seals. They work the glass out by using a soaped thin cord. They break a lot of windshields this way but then they are putting in a one.

For saving the windshield, cut the rubber thouroughly, then ease the glass out.

It is doable without cutting and hacking rubbers unless your rubber is shagged then just get a stanley knife and cut the rubber away from the inside. Otherwise to remove it sit in the passenger or drivers seat get a flat blunt object like a big old worn screwdriver. Put it in the rubber from the top left or right corner get your feet on the glass near the corner you start in and as your roll the rubber outwards with the screwdriver push with your feet and do this all the way along the top be sure to keep rolling the rubber as you go along pushing. To get it started you will need to give it quite a push but don't jolt or kick the screen. Once you get a start in one corner it will come easy. Just did one the other day and have done many this way over the years working in wreckers. You have to work your way across the top then exit the car and pull the rubber and screen upwards together. You Can Do It.

The above statement carries no warranty only experience put into words the best i can.

there is no need to destroy either rubber or widshield.
get on the inside of the car, and with a broad flat blade screwy, push the rubber over the lip, keep going around until the widscreen comes out.

i still think that if you just get yourself a new windscreen rubber and hack the old one. The rubbers arent hard to get and it is way easier to cut the rubber then risk breaking the windscreen.

i think its easier to keep everything intact.
ive taken out many windscreens by myself and put them back in myself, and i aint no glazier. extremely simple task, and unless your rubber looks totally shagged i would just be careful and save yourself a few bucks that a lazy bloke would blow.
you would have to be VERY rip-tear-bust to break a windscreen.

Yeah there actually pretty hard to break and why just stuff a rubber if its in good nick. $140 for screen seal. A windscreen fitter at the worst would probably charge you about $40 to remove it. Big difference

Tip: Don't try to force the windshield out -- that is when they break. Just apply gentile pressure and keep working around. Eventually it will be ready to come out.

So in a word: be patient
