I had a metal fabricator add wings to the stock sump and maintained the stock baffles. Seems to work pretty well.

I forgot to mention that I researched this a few years ago while building my new motor and no-one offered an aftermarket option then. Hopefully you will have better luck than I did. Please let me know if you do.

Yeah I saw the SR20 one - I'm looking around for a generic set of gated walls I can get welded around the oil pickup.

If I find anything specific I will definitely let everyone know.

do you really need baffles on a stock sump?

A few mates of mine running RB's say yes - Nissan motors seem to be very good at running out of oil and spinning big end bearings on the race track.

This car will see no 'street' duties at all - track only, so it really needs oil at the pickup, even at Turn 1 of PI - where many RB's/CA's have gone boom.

I can't see the stock CA sump being any better than the stock RB.

Plus a $200 sump baffle is better than a new motor.

cost me $7 to wing my L series sump, im thinking you should get to know some metal workers

wouldnt have thought that the CA sump was wide enough for the oil to really get away from the pickup, maybe just extending the pickup and bulge in the sump downwards would do the job....unless the oil starts to defy gravity

Could be that your right about metal workers - Next year is my year to learn how to fabricate, taking on these projects without those tools and skills is really starting to suck.

So adding wings to the sides does more than promote oil cooling?
