Today I was driving my car and I stopped to check the coolant because its been using a bit for some reason. I checked and it was down more than usual so i topped it up and that was fine then i drove for about 10minutes more and the same thing happened so i topped it up again and started the motor and the coolant was pressurizin.
I took it home and tried again today and it does this when the motor is cold also. The radiator is in good knic all the hoses are new and the thermo is new. The car does'nt overheat also. Does anyone have any idea's why the #### this is happening?
I have a bad feeling it could be the head gasket. Also the oil seems fine too.
Any help would be great.
Thanks Ed

are you using the right rad cap... if not will vent all the liquid. but doens sund like ahead gasket possibly, wierd about no water in oil? especially if your loosing that much?

any chance the heater core might be leaking or a hose to the heater core?

does sound very head gaskety.

fill the rad and leave the cap off. Then start/crank the car. Does it spit the coolant out/bubble constantly? If so i would say you have a blown head gasket/corroded head!

It certainly does spit out/ bubble coolant out at a great rate when the radiator cap is off. Whats a new head gasket worth?
Just my fkn luck she will be warped too!
If im taking the head off anyways how much would it cost to get ported roughly?
Cheers Ed

There is a whole gasket set on fleabay search Datsun I dont think it came up under datsun 1200 search. I bought a headgasket a few weeks back on fleabay for $20 I think. So they aren't too expensive

It's a head gasket (mine did this not to long ago) it will blead off the water just slow enough that there are no big symptoms - till you check with the cap off.

This is not a big deal on an A series, leave the manifolds on, undo the exhaust at the head pipe, disconnect the throttle cable and fuel line, valve cover , head bolts and presto in a 1/2 hour with hand tools the head is off.............do a quick check with a straight edge on the head and deck. (It's very unlikely you warped anything unless it got smoking hot as in 275 F water temp) Put the new gasket on button it up and away you go. It won't take more then 2-3 hours. For anyone familiar with an A series it's a 1.5 hr job....................45 minutes with air tools.

As for porting well given the time it takes I'd expect , $300 for a deal(friend) and $700-1000+ from a race shop.

Tom
