I saw the photo of the tall block motor and I was wondering something. Should I be looking for this in my quest for parts and why? I have yet to get a look at this Sunny I have been offered so I have nothing for comparsion. I looked at all my A12s they range from 73 to 78 and they all have a raised deck. Was this some thing to do with altering compression ratios? Just intrested

All A14s and A15s are tall-deck blocks. A12 engine deck is only raised a little bit above bellhousing flange, whereas A14 is about an inch above the flange.

OK! I assume that the hight diffirence is there to alter the capacity of the motor for are they all not very similar in bore dimention.?

nope. Bore is also bigger than A12.

The deck is taller to accomodate a longer stroke.

The rare 1974 A13 was the first talll block, with same bore as A12 -- the same idea you had. Then in 1975 they bored that out, to create the A14.

Read all about it here: Nissan A Engine

Ok got ya. Thanks. I was toying with the idea of shorting up the stroke on an "A" series, see if we could grab a few more revs. Just some ideas I have been bouncing around thats all.

How many more revs do you want?
A well tweaked A15 which has the longest stroke in the A series family at 82mm will still happily spin to 8,000 rpm which is quite adequate for most applications as the torque output is good & more revs are not really much of an asset.

Some of the speedway blokes seem to run A12 cranks in A14/15 blocks with special rod & piston combinations. The extra length of the rod allows a more gentle rod angle at about mid stroke & these special race engines can be spun up to about 10,000 rpm but lack the torque to handle a heavier passenger model car like the A14/15 will.

I was just wondering about what sost of revs you could obtain. It would be an interesting but undoubtly expensive project. I am currently helping a friend restore a VH 770 Charger which, according to it's previous owner is carring a stroked 318. We have yet to fire it up . We haven't even cracked her open to check exactly what has been done to her. It has never been run since the bloke built it. We hope he wasn't full of bs. The old girl should go hard!
The most I am going to do to my Coupe is GX Spec and a 5spd. If I want to drive quick I have my Aurion for that. Besides the healers out here are clamping down on us and I need to keep my licence. At nearly 50 I don't like walking anywhere
