what other options are there for the A series in the way of 5 or 6 speed gearboxes coz i just cant justify $1000 for a weak gear box when you can pay a couple hundred for a celica 5 speed

celica 5 speeds arent a couple hundred bucks any more just like A series 5 speeds arent anymor, they have mostly been used up behind everything from V8's to rotaries.

6 speed??? porsche, ferrari slot-shift, HSV holden...
and then need to make a custom bellhousing adaptor and trans tunnel so big u r sitting on it, dont even start thinking about the costs.

thats right 1200$ not 200$ for celica box, and they are proven just about unbreakable over a long period and a slick smooth shift too.

Yeah o.k put a 6 speed in and get a job as a traveling sales man in which case you use your car rather than the newish car AUTO 4 speed minimum provided with a retainer. Please i barely get out of 3rd gear and 4th is fine for 100 odd k trips to see me son. 5 speed would be as far as i would go and it would wanna come cheap. just get a A series 5 speed if need be yes they are dearish but they are headache free just buy one that comes with everything to bolt it straight in.

1000coupe thats for a ready to bolt onto an aseries t50 gearbox but you can pick up one for 200 that isnt ready to bolt on
and sometimes you can get a bargain 5 speed
i scored a fully rebuilt dogleg box attached to a worked a14 for just $700
