Hi fellas, just thought I would show yas a custom side draught manifold I have built.

I couldnt seem to find any side draught manifolds to suit the large oval port heads, so I built one.

This one is a prototype, I will be remaking it in stainless after a bit more testing.

I have built this manifold to face foward as it allows clearance for air filters, and also positions it at a convenient angle for ram air / forced air induction.

In the top photo you can see that cylinders 1 & 2 are closer to the carb, I have made the pipe to 1&2 more curvy / complex to slow the airspeed a bit, while the pipe to 3&4 is much straighter. This is done in an effort to equalise the intakes.

Have done a bit of test driving, and it seems to have very good response and broad spread of power (no dead spots).
It idles on the lumpier side of smooth, and has a very throaty growl.

Not sure of performance for comparison, but it gets to 160 pretty quick!
need to look for a 5 speed now....

Any ideas? suggestions?

Many people say these carbs tend to be termpermental when not mounted flat. Might be something to think about.

I'm not too familiar with the correct terminology but certain makes/models were designed to get past that issue. Imagine them in races/rallys?

Mine sit on a slight angle, and they're mounted on a bprojects manifold.

I wouldn't dismiss the issue but I would have thought it were resolved through design.

datto12qld, These manifolds are primarily made to keep the carb away from the heat?

The reason your pics didn't show up:
* You copied the web page address URL,
but then clicked the IMG button
* For piccy, click IMG button but you need address of the piccy, not address of the web page

Details about this are on the FAQ menu at top left

A+ for effort, not sure how practical though, 45 sidedraught's are too big for an Aseries, you have to choke them down to run properly, but it is possible.
Rule of thumb is to make the runners as short as you possibly can, your set-up will work.

Not trying to put you down or anything but its all about R&D (research and devolpment) when undertaking projects like this, i wish you well, let us know how well it works.
