Hey guys, got myself a thermo to mount up to the S13 rad - it didn't come with any stuff to mount it with, so interested in what you recommend.

I've heard of bolts through the fins of the rad, these zip tie looking things, or fabbing up some Al brackets. (The brackets are a little tricky in this case as there are no bolt holes on the fan housing).

Fan looks like this:

doesnt it have hole drilled on the sides for the mounting of the factory set up? mine does and i plan on using them with some strap steel.

I almost considered similar to the steel straps used in packing some pallet items, just over the top and bottom or rad, not tight enough to crack the plastic but firm enough to stop movement.

screw 4 holes in the straps and use bolts with nuts on the engine bay side, rubber gromets to stop rubbing of metal on the rad core.

dodgey but effective i feel. Maybe this is one thing you may not need to overengineer ben

hey dude yer them ziptie things that come with the fan work ok or just the normal old ziptie do the job dont know if id be trying to push a bolt through the fins but that just my opinion

i used two 12'' fans cos the 14'' was to deep and the water pump pulley would hit on it in my setup

cheers matty

I used the same fan. The mount/slot things on the fan were the exact size of a 6mm hex nut. So slipped a nut into them and made some mounting brackets from 15 x 3 steel.

Did not want to push clip things through the fins.

Hey Ben ,i mounted one exactly the same to an S13 radiator on Saturday. If thats all thats in the kit your missing 4 pieces, there about 3" long and slide into the four sockets of the plastic outer housing.

I mounted thru the radiator to see how it felt(with the rubber bits in place for protection)and to my surprise it looks and feels quite stable,so i'm going to leave it and see what happens if anything,i don't reckon it'll go anywhere as its sitting on the bottom tank already. The wierd zip tie things look like they work.
Cheers

Thanks for the back up fellas - I think I might go grab one of those zip tie kits - then the fan is as close as it can be to the rad which should help cooling and engine bay space a bit.

I saw Davies Craig actually sell a zip tie kit so that can't be all that bad.
