whats the deal with personalised plates down here in nsw?
do you own them outright?
if they arent displayed can you keep them or do they have to be stored at rta?
do they attract annual fees?
do you OWN them or are they always property of the RTA?
is there a website like PPQ that you can go to to check availability?

The RTA always own them as far as i know .
if not on a regested car must be held at the RTA at about $50 a year
annual fee for this style plate about $400 a year

Geez thats a crap deal on the plates.
In WA, we "own" them as such. The DPI technically own them, but you own the right to display them.

They must be on a vehicle at all times, otherwise they have to be in storage.

There is no annual fee.
There is no storage fee, but there is a $12.50 retrival fee.
The only fee is the upfront purchase cost, ranging from about $200 - $600 depending on what you want.

WA is still the best state!

yeah looks like we get the raw deal here in nsw.
my qld plates currently on the car cost nix and they are mine, pretty much the same deal as you wa guys without the having to be in storage when not displayed.qld'ers can keep them in a drawer at home till your ready to use em.
mine will have to come off in a year as i still have an adress up in qld till then.

same deal here in vic

$100 to $600 in price to buy

can store them at home on the wall if you want. no charge.

only charge i know of is $80 to transfer the plate to another vehicle if you desire
