I've heard something like that is possible - but takes a while.

One technique my uncle has used successfully is a kiddie pool full of water mixed with molassess - the stuff they feed horses, it's real cheap and contains an organic acid that eats up rust, something like the phosphoric acid in rust converters. Takes a couple of weeks but eats off all the rust - it wont eat paint though.

I'm thinking of trying it on my boys rusty LJ.

Also on this site, we saw the Fella from Portugal with this Datsun 510 SSS Coupe do something similar in a baby pool.

This wouldnt happen to be something known as electrolosis...
never thought about using it for removing rust... Why not?

I've never tried the electrical current version (I think you have to put it in water+baking soda) - but it should work in theory - just make sure you get the polarity right, as if you get it the wrong way around, it'll actually _promote_ corrosion.

The molasses thing works - After you've removed the panel from teh molasses (check it every 12 hours or so to get a feel on how quick it works) hit it _hard_ with high pressure water, then blow dry, then a light smear of phosphoric acid (which will 'treat' the very surface layer and prevent it from re-rusting) if you aren't going to paint it straight away.

it can work but it really does take forever and then you need to treat it as soon as you can to prevent any rust appearing again if you have the time it is worth it

the mollasis is ok but to do anything that is large you need a hell of a lot
