Hey guys,I have a 73 Datsun 1200 coupe, lights in the dash flicker when I drive at night, not all the time though, maybe ground issue? If anyone has any ideas, I greatly appreciate the help. thanx

It could be a loose hot wire.
But usually it is a loose earth/ground wire. The instrument cluster ground via a screw to the metal dash. If it is loose it could cause flickering.

do they flicker much?
mine do heaps if i turn my stereo up

it would be a short in your positive shorting to ground i would think.
although it could also be loose earth as said before.

and andy you would have a short aswell. probably just some insulation of the + and - wires. just when you turn stereo up it vibrates and the wires would touch

yer i kno i gotta bad earthy cause sometimes my car wont start cause of it

im not trying to go agaisnt what anyone else has said

but andys problem is most probably because the draw from his stereo is too much when he turns it up
this happened to me until i ran an amplifier which has a MOSFET system or something and draws power equally instead of in bursts like your stereo would if there is a loud bass line

you can also combat this by installing a more powerful battery or what they call a capacitor which draws a more steady current and feads it to your stereo

Hey andy-roo, I've had cars with sound equip. in them and the same thing happens, light dim to the sound of the music, my problem is that it seems like the cluster looses power and comes back, do you have a capacitor in your system?, I've heard that its helps with your problem, and no worries, you're not hijacking the thread.
