hey all, just got my extractors fitted.. and on the drive home (well after i gave it a semi kick in the guts my mate behind me said there was smoke coming out of the exhaust.. when we got back home i checked and it was infact steam.. !!!!! i dont know why or how i just know it is.. i saw the temp a bit high but the radiator was still cold.. so i figured there was no hot water in it.. and look at that, there wasnt so i felled it up and ran it for 5 mins without the cap on and it was slowly going down... but the temp was still good, so my question is.. by that infomation can you diagnose that it is from a cracked bore or from something wrong with the head.. it idols very chunky and struggles to get revs...

You are loosing water from some where perhasps you have a blown head gasket.....
Get a preasure tester and pop it on the radiator pump it up so the system has preasure in it and look for a leak, if the preasure is going down then you have a leak some where in the system.

Yes, probably head gasket. Possbilly the wet intake manifild but Datsun ones aren't known to crack.

The radiator pressure tester is the go. Use a length of heater hose to your eir, listen down the carb, out the exhaust pipe, in the rocker cover. You should not hear an air hiss anywhere.

Another easy way to check if there is a leak is to take a clear plastic bottle fill it with water and hold it upside down on the cap hole. If the water is going anywhere it will be replaced with air. So you will see the bubbles rising in the bottle. But this is only if you dont have the correct test equipment. Hope get it sorted.

had the engine off for 5 mins to go get some chemi-weld.. quick fix and the engine done half a turn and JAMMED!!! so took all the spark plugs out and sure enough 3 of the plugs were wet.. first was the only one dry.. i used the chemi weld as per directions and still just as bad, if not worse.. i have run the radiator dry and let the car run for a minute to make sure no water was left in the system to get rusted.. and i dont know what do do next... ide say that if 3 cylinders are getting water then the head might be a right off alltogether..

If it only started when you got the extractors fitted I suggest that you check the water fittings to the head. I have seen apprentices connect water to vacum connections before. Possibly even the inlet gasket. If the problem has only happened suddenly then I would think that something has gone wrong.

perhaps a cylinder leak down test? to prove if its a internal problem or an inlet issue, if 3 cylinders have water in them you've done a good job on the little 1200 then

i stated it this morning with n water in it.. and it started like normal.. as it started to warm up i slowly added water.. i also took the hose off the inlet man. and it was wet inside but taking it off didnt make it run any better.. soon as i filled the radiator up it started blowing stem and barely idoling.. will it run too hot if i try driving it withought the head water inlet hose on.. will that rule out if it is a "head"problem.. then if it still runs crap then a crack in the bore???

Water inlet hose? Do you mean the heater hose connector at the very back of the head?

It won't matter. Water gets into the head through the block when the A12 is running correctly. You can plug the heater hose, but the coolant will still flow though the head.

Do a pressure check. Or do a regular engine compression test. That's what you need to do next.
