well ill explain whats going on, i sold my turbo 1200 ute to a guy in tassy (im in townsville) he purchased it without actually seeing it he only said he needed photos. all went well he paid in full including the cost to frieght the ute to melbourne. where hewas going to drive it from. now heres the odd part. when it left my house and when he picked it up everything was perfect, but after him driving to launcesten it blew a head gasket (supposably) he then forked out for towing and the cost of a new head gasket kit and he even said he got the head shaved. the catch is hes wanting me to pay for it totallying $500 which i dont think is right. then he rings me again asking if i had, had problems with the fan and the alternator, i said no. i explained that it turns on at 84 degrees and he said it didnt, i dont see how this could have broken unless he has fuked it. he also boughtanother fan for $100 which didnt fix it supposably and want me to pay for that aswell. i also sked him if he had everything hooked up right for the alternator as it was fine when it left here as with everything else. (he said he used to be a mechanic...ummm what?)he said o yeah, i asked if the battery was hooked up properly afeter taking the head of and he said yes but yo dont need that to make the light work. i was dumbfounded as i know you need the battery.

i just dont know as when i sold it nothing was wrong, so who is to say he wasnt doing a burnout when it was cold or seeing if it can go to 10000rpm or what??

It is a tough one. On one hand I'd say that if someone is stupid enough to buy a car sight unseen then they really have nobody to blame but themselves, If someone was subjected to these sorts of problems, they have to prove with more than just reciepts that the problem occured.

I recently sold a perfectly good GTR steering wheel on ebay and the guy waited 4 weeks to tell me that it was broken, I know for a fact that it wasn't, I'm not the sort of person to do that but I gave him the benefit of the doubt and asked for photographic proof that the wheel was busted. All I got in return was a metric tonne of abuse. Nothing else eventuated. Although I am supremely confident that it was not broken I still have this niggling doubt that bothers me.

If he can not provide you with proper proof that the problem occurred then you have absolutely no obligation to help him. But if it did all happen perhaps you could agree to helping out with parts refund or a percentage of the repairs. Not that you have to. It is a car of over 10 years old. He should have flown to your place and looked it over or payed for an independant inspection.

Its a damn shame that it happened! but i suspect that Greendog was on the right track, its more than likley that the car carriers might have cained it and it might be their fault. It may be bennificial to look at getting the cost from them, although i suspect that that will be highly unlikley, it might be worth looking into.

Yeah Sounds like someone possibly wants there car carrier costs back. Think its safe to say that the trouble started out of your hands therefore its no longer your problem. Has the buyer offered to provide receipts of the supposed work carried out ?
