The maximum bore size in blocks that came with a stock bore of 76mm will depend on a number of factors.
Chief among these is the distance, center to center, of the end pairs of cylinders.
At 79mm on original bore centers the metal between the bores is getting pretty thin & the gasket sealing qualities are begining to be sorely tested.
A good idea is to offset the bore centers slightly away from each other just to give a little more gasket sealing surface.
For street use I would suggest that this should be the maximum. For turbo engines I would go a little smaller & for high boost applications I would stick with standard oversizes just to maximise the gasket sealing face between cylinders.

For a balls to the wall race engine I believe that 80mm is probably the outer limit & offset boring would be a necessity along with sonic bore checking as the walls must surely be getting pretty thin on one side with this size & method.
Do not expect long engine life either. It might well live for years, but don't go counting on it.

I have 78mm pistons for my A13 & I regard that as a safe max for a street engine while still leaving room for one more overbore to save a damaged/worn block if necessary.

Ive cracked my 79mm bores twice in the past in hot summer heat.
Will never go that route again Id rather spend extra on a stroker
86mm a15 with offset ground crank with 77mm honda EL OHC pistons 27.5mm
comp height which will give 1586cc but need custom 133mm rods with 40mm crankpins
eg. 45mm --> 40mm = -5mm for offset grinding then use e15et bearings.

username "Mat" (Or Matt?) had his a15 bored out to 79.5mm. but he nevr ran the engine. But he did have the bores tested. So I guess you can o as big as the block can take. (if you have it tested.

i'm out to 78mm with forced unduction.
