What Thermo fans are ppl running on their 1k Rads? ...sizes/brands/types?
I offered up a generic 10 inch but it doesn't quite fit, 8 inch seems a bit pointless unless i can get 2 side by side.

What other rad/fan combos pulled from non-Datsuns would fit well with as little mods as possible?

Why do you want to run a thermo fan? Most of the time the stock engine fan is fine!

I only run a thermo coz i run a Hyundai X3 radiator and there is no room for a engine fan. Its just some random fan a mate gave me that fitted infront of the rad.

cos theres bugger all room between the fan and the radiator! ...I guess its the way the gearbox/engine mounts have been made up. After putting the 5 speed in. the bottom of the fans arc was actually nicking the rad at times... so I thought putting in a thermofan would be easier than having to tackle the mounts.
Eh im about to be proved wrong again heh

I would say look at getting the motor back a bit because having that far forward is going to mess around with your handling alot. And then sort out the fan. Good luck

Cheers Superbin, so I took some photos of the clearences and position of the motor.

heres where the fan just nicks the radiator at the bottom:

Heres the room I have left at the back...tho any further back Im going to hit the clutch fork on the firewall:

Maybe the 5speed gearbox mounts have pushed the lot too far forward?

The RHS engine mount:

Any discrepancies you guys could pick would be appreciated, could it be simply that the fan was too big?(thats kinda the answer im hoping for cos otherwise its a fair bit of work...but im well aware that the answer yr hoping for is often not what you get!)

looks like its sitting a bit higher and forward than i would expect.

just use the thermo fans like you are getting other wise you would need bodgey clutch fan and water pump set up like i have and space it back.

at least no angles on the mounts making it look pushed forward, also gear box x member is round the right way,

might have to shave 3-4mm off the ends of each plastic fan blade to clear ;) and thats a free mod as a temperary measure till you get it sorted past rego

Ive often wondered if anyone has found a company that is willing to make new waterpumps
for the A series to reduce the depth much like on modern engines. This would provide
extra room for the radiator, fans and intercoolers.

how much room do you have between the sump and the crossmember, coz with miks 1200 the engine was too high and a little further back so the clutch fork was hitting the tunnel

so if you can go down a little you might be then able to go back also

and the lower the fan, the more it might hit, but would be ok further back.

yeah mines so bad that the previous woner cut a hole in the tunnel, damn him, anothe reason to replace it ;)
