hey have a few questions about using a sunny 5 speed on the a14 engine. are these the same gearboxes as the '60' series gearbox or are they different. pretty sure the one i am thinking of is a hydraulic gearbox and have heard that the trans tunnel needs some massaging out in order for it to fit. i take it that these gearboxes would be an ordinary gearbox not like the rally ones with second and third above/below each other..
what are your thoughts?
cheers

B310 Sunny 60 series 5 speeds come in 2 versions:
FS5W60A--standard pattern 135
24R
and

FS5W60L--dogleg pattern R24
135

In right hand drive markets, the clutch is cable operated.
In LHD markets they are hydraulic.
Easy to mod either for cable or hydraulic

Fitting to a datto 1000 takes a very small amount of massaging around the clutch lever. Not sure about the 120Y
Wiki has heaps of info on 5 speeds

Hydraulic on the right hand side will be a 63a 5 speed while hydraulic on the left hand side will be 60 series. Depending on whether or not it is or was previously an auto or how much space you have in the firewall area will dictate if you need to modify it or not. I had a 63 series in my auto 120Y with no mods required. I had moved the L series (same from A series) 25mm further back in mine and it caused some problems but it won't with standard engine positioning. Was yours a factory auto?

nah nearly 100% that it was factory manual. after reading some of the info on the tech wiki it looks like i would be better of puttin a toyota T50 gearbox in..which im thinking might be what i do. one question to match the bellhousing up to the engine could i just use the one of my a12 or i also have a bell housing on my a14 i intend using. pretty sure its a 5 speed box because it came out of a nissan venette. or do i have to use a proper conversion kit?

Gday mate

The vannete gearbox would be remote operated (colum shift)
You can modify these to be floor shift but takes a bit of work

Reportedly any 60 series gearbox would fit to an originaly auto tunnel of a 1200 or 120y

Im interested to know what it takes to fit a t50 to both auto and manual tunnels

Cheers
J

The tiny 1200 tunnel fits a 5-speed, so the larger B210 will have no problem at all.

These gearboxes do not have a separate bellhousing. However, A12 and A14 have the pattern, so no worries.

There is a few ways to put a T-50 in an A-series, get in contact with Dellow automotive, they sell full conversion kits including the bellhousing to suit A-series and all other bits that you need, cost about $800 not including the gearbox.

Another way which a few others on this forum have done is modify an Auto bellhousing and attach that to the T-50, Wiki has details on that aswell.

Its a pretty snug fit putting a T-50 in a 1200/120y/1000, you may have to massage the tunnel a bit but it nothing major, nothing to difficult. Well worth the effort!

alright sounds like the way to go then considering price and how easy they are to find compared to a '60' series gearbox would love a 5 speed in would be good..
