Hi all, I've been on here for a while now, but not posted before.

I am currently at the planning stage of a project thats a bit different to anything I have seen on here. Having taken preliminary mesurements, it looks like it will go.

My plan is to use a transaxle gearbox, and fabricate a subframe to carry it and the rear suspension myself as the 350z gearbox is HUGE, it will also serve to balance the car, as the rear of the ute is very light.

Has anyone on here taken anything like this on? If so, do you have any advice or tips.

As I'm in the UK, recommending your friendly local parts supplier/engineering workshop may be of limited use..... LOL

I have heard of no project like that. But like this:

* VG30 into 1200, with conventional transmission
* Ute turned into trayback (flatbed), with custom rear frame

So it is do-able.

porsche 944 rear transaxle should be tough enough and easy to find over there, frankenstien adapt the shift gear as well as the propshaft, could work.

having had a look at the vq series motors, although compact woulnt the size foul on the steering components and master cyl in the 1200 engine bay?

unless you plane to gut the total engine bay of everything it would be a very tight squeeze.
If it fits, why not consider the vq37 as an upgrade in a couple of years ;)

I was planning on a remote servo and a steering rack conversion, so that was my plan anyway.

As for the transaxle, I was thinking of a alfa 75 as they are a lot more compact and should stand 300 bhp easily in such a light car.

Would be fun!!
