Heres my new timing chain & gear setup for my A-15 motor, the odd thing about this is there's only one off colored link on the chain to line up the gear indents with (I dotted the indents w/white paint), its for the cam gear so I followed procedure for lining up the key ways of the crank & the cam dowel as per the FSM for an A-12:

I believe I've got this setup right but would rather change it now instead of later if its wrong. I used the old gear set as a template to align the gears on the new set that was missing the off colored link for the crank gear. As you can see in the image w/the straight edge its aligned as per the FSM, Haynes says with the indents facing each other & #1 cyl. @ TDC its all good.

Your thoughts...........

PS - does it seem like its more of a pain in the a** to load images these days onto the site?

Ok Im no a series expert but know my way around a motor and the a12 and a15 work on the same setup so I cant see that how you did the setup could be wrong. Best of luck

i cant help you but maybe someone can tell you the number of links between the two coloured link so you can mark yours white?

I think a good qaulity picture like yours is pretty valuable ,

The colored links don't matter. They are just a double-check.

Do it like the first photo you posted. Double check it after you put the head on. At TDC rockers for piston 1 are loose. At BTDC those for piston 4 are loose.

I agree with DD, do it like the first pic. My haynes book shows the same Illustration and it seems the factory manual was the same.
So now you have DD's expert opinion and my half expert opinion.

all right then, I'm just leaving it on there the way it is. I know the colored link didn't really matter thats why I lined it up the way the old chain & FSM indicated but the haynes manual makes it a bit confusing showing the image of the dots facing each other.

I'll do the rocker check after the head install, how much BTDC for #4 rockers to be loose?
