ok so im looking at making up some rocker collars but i just need someone to shed some light. when i measured up the rocker gear the distances between the rockers varies from 24.3 to 25.7. so my question is how long should i make them so that i can sell a few sets to fellow members

I had a set made a while ago (as you know) and i had mine a touch over 24mm, i think it was like 24.2 somthing around that. All they have to do is stop the tappets from 'dancing' off the valves a high RPM, thers only a small gap between the bigger widths.

Did you get my email with the drawing of the collars??

Is this a common modification? Will it make a difference in a stock engine with 75,000 miles? I would like to attain 70mph in 5th and feel confident about the engine. I believe this speed will have me pullin down a steady 3500 rpm's, at least according to the stock tach. Is this a wise move for an A14 in a 77 B210 with a stock 5spd? The last time I owned one the speed limit was 55mph!

yea i got the drawing mate but just thought id ask to see if there were any other points of view. eric these are best used on motors that like to rev up past 6-7000rpm on a regular basis.

thats pretty much what i was asking ... do the towers that hold the rocker gear up move side to side slighty? coz that would make things easy ... i just couldnt check on my engine coz i had already set all my valve clearances

yeah there's a bit of movement, probably enough to take an average and make the collars all the same length. When I made mine i gave them a couple of thou clearance, haven't had any probs yet.

I may sound stoopid but WTF is a valve rocker collar? And is it a performance or durability upgrade?

Aegis,

Basically they keep the rocker arms from walking at high rpm. They also help to assist distribute oil along the rocker shaft at higher RPMs.

For street application they are pretty much unnecessary, my conscience will rest easier with the fitting of them (to assist oiling).

My A14 in PNG had, over time, ceased two rocker arms into the rocker shaft thus affecting the tappets and then the cam lobes.

Here is a link to Bprojects Australia's collars, seems a cheap starting bid. Normally selling for about AUD$95.00.

Bprojects Aus Ebay

Aiden, if at all possible, some attention must be paid to the ends of the collars. Basically the surface of the collar (where it meets the rocker shaft tower/towers) ought to be of the same area. Just to distribute evenly amongst that face and not wear out a particular spot.
