Hi Guys,

last Saturday I was traveling to hill country side ,just before my destination suddenly my car stooped, tried to start but did not then i was paddling my throttle for some time and could start the car and again same think happened, actually it was a problem with my fuel pump that did not deliver enough fuel to the carb, i had to increase the wight of the fuel pump handle that connects to the engine to increase the pressure from it ,fortunately i was closed to my mechanic,

thanks
regards
sumith

I had a similer problem were it was like it ran out of fule every now and then, and I replaced the pump and all the lines and allmost gave up on the sidroughts I had on, and then some old bloke sed probly got rust in the tank like he was the all knowing oz. and he was right the bastard! HAHA!

Hi Sumith,

Glad to hear you got it fixed. It sounds like you had a pre-1974 fuel pump on an 1974-up engine.

As a note of warning, never paddle the throttle of a warm engine. Depressing the throttle squirts raw gasoline into the intake manifold, and can wash out the cylinders of a warm engine.

When the engine is warm, hold the throttle slight open (depress pedal about 1/2 down) and try to start the car.

Hi ddgonzal

If my fuel pump fails again and again my mechanic said , i may need to go for electric fuel pump which will cost 20 U$$ , but i don't know how reliable those . are you using electric fuel pumps or mechanical ones ?

thanks

The most reliable are the original Datsun fuel pumps (mechanical) which have many bolts around the top. I am running this 1972 pump.

$20 may buy a used pump. If it is $20 new, it is a cheap pump, beware. In USA, electric pumps are $40-50 USD and more.
