I need some advice on L series engine conversions into Datsun 1200, I'm leaning towards L18, please share any experience or knowledge on this conversion, and whether it is a good way to go or is an A14 or A15 just as good? What sought of costs? Where to get an engine? What else I will need for conversion? Could I do it myself? THANKS!!!

There is an L18 engine with transmission for sale on ebay at the moment for $100.00 with no bidders yet, can anyone tell me what they think of it!

A L series is a great upgrade from an A series. Many people have done the swop. Check out the tech wiki. Your can never generate the same amount of torque out of a A series. The L 18 is a great motor and the whole L range is extremly abuse friendly you would need to upgrade you diff. As for doing it yourself I dont know how michanical you are but worst case you ask here if you get stuk. Good luck and enjoy

It is a great swap! You can do it yourself if you find the right parts. See L-series Engine Swap

The L series is just one of those motors that you need to try and break. Check the Tech Wiki section for a lot of info, also search the site for pictures and threads regarding L series conversions.

i have all the parts together for it (with much help), just have to get help with the welding and cutting for the tunnel and gear box/x member mounts.

L18 is less effort to fit. but if you aim to fit an L20b then you know that when you get it to fit in it will be nice and low, so then if you want to run an L18 instead is will be sitting in a really nice position

i did my whole L series conversion for a couple of hundred $$$ originally, then i got tired of dodgy old engines and went and bought that built engine for near on $4000....i like that engine alot

would rather have a turbo'd EFI L series than the CA but cant really justify building another strong bottom end whilst i still have the NA one here
