hi guys after swapping the auto to the 5 speed and realising how much fun datsun realy are im looking at doing some engine mods

i was first thinking weber 32/36 and extractors/ zorst setup
then i thought one day i might look to upgrade carbouretors again so might aswell go all the way

then i was thinking a pair of sidedraphts and zorst
but then i decided i might one day go to an a14/15
and then the a12 intake manifold is of no use

so im starting to think about an oval port head on my a12 block and reground cam, sides, and zorst
my a12 bottom end is pretty solid at the moment and isnt burning oil making noises etc.

i have got my head around the carbouretors and the zorst just wanted peoples input on the cylinder head.
couldnt find much info in the wiki

so is the oval port head realy a straight bolt on affair?
and what pushrods would you use, the short a12 ones or the longer a14 ones?
also which cyl head gasket would you use the a12 or 14 one?

thanks for any info
cheers

Yeah straight bolt on and ya use the a12 one's. The extra hight of 14/15's is in the block.

bolt on except if you are putting oval port a14/a15 onto an early front dizzy a12. then you have to drill out that center oil gallery. its all in here somewhere, or the wiki

An oval port head would be a nice upgrade, but you could also clean up the ports on the existing head, add the the reground cam to the bottom end and pick up a cheap 32/36 weber while you're sourcing all the goodies for an oval port head.....................you'd get a nice power boost while being able to take your time on the rest of a build up. Personally unless your like myself or a couple of other guys who race a particular class that requires us to use the A12, I'd just build a nice A14.
