"Front 180B struts with Audi discs and Commodore calipers"
Why would you go Audi disks when verada ones are dirt cheap and do the same thing? Maybe lighter? dunno.

55k is a lot of money. I also don't see it, although I recently heard of people paying 20k for paint/panel jobs..so I guess it's possible.

Straight car $5000
engine / gearbox and ancilleries $10000
panel and paint $10000
diff $2000
front brakes $1000
Interior bits $2500
wheels $3000

$33,500 inc labour is my guess.

He may well be adding up the bills from the time he has owned the car i.e it's had three motors, 2 different brake set ups, 2 different diffs, blown 2 gearboxes etc, etc.
If that's the case a 55K spend is possible as you don't always get things right the first time and bits break.
Having said that I personally think "saying this build cost X" would be a better way of advertising it.

It is easier than you think to tip that sort of cash into a car if you don't do most of the work yourself. If you pay someone to do a full under over respray properly can cost a small fortune. Not like most of the quick jobs that you see these days. They look good for 12 months or 2 years before the bog starts to fall out and turn to crap.
