Whine when pressing clutch

I've got a whine when pressing in clutch. It's kind of intermittent. I had the rear main seal done a few days ago and I've noticed it the last two days when I first start up the car, it then goes away after driving for a bit.

I didn't get the noise before the seal was done, but I only just got the car and have only driven it a few times before, so can't be sure if it was there before or not.

It's quite loud, but not terribly harsh.

Any ideas on what it could be and if it might be related to getting the seal changed?

That is usually a bad pilot bearing. When you are pressing the clutch the engine and transmisson input shaft are no longer spinning at the same speed. A bad pilot bearing will whine.

Yep. When the rear main seal was done, they may not have lubricated the pilot bushing correctly.

if it goes away when engine heats up will be spigot bearing, specialy if ya just had rear main done because oil would have got on it.

Cool thanks for the info. Do does it have to be pulled apart to be fixed? Is likely to cause damage if I drive it like this?

The odd thing is the clutch was done not so long go so it's odd that spigot and thrust bearings weren't replaced then.

Maybe the solution is to get a 5-speed...

nah that wont fix it, just take the hamster out of the bell housing. he can only run so quick

im taking a guess at the spiggot bearing, i replaced 2 and they still whined, they whine eventually went away mysteriously but occurs randomly only when really cold now. disappears after first coule of releases.

Yes, you have to remove the transmission to fix this

Yes, you are likely to damage it if not fixed.
