Hi Guys I have spent the last few weeks looking at wiki's and forums and the end result is I am totally 100% confused. I have not even thought about 'doing a car up' until this 1200 came into my life :)
I hope someone here can just impart their knowledge on me and save the day.
I have a 1200 Datsun coupe, standard ride height, struts, everything (even the wheels). He needs bigger wheels.
I was thinking perhaps 14x6 on the front and 14x7 on the back as I have sourced some watanabe's locally here in Perth that will do the trick (second hand off a friends old broken 240Z). The tires on them are front 195/60 rear 215/65, I guess it is safe to assume there is no way those tires will fit, but the rims will be just about right?
I would like to keep the guards stock but if I have to lip them or something it will be done.. (I intend to get flares for him eventually anyway, I love the JDM bolt on flares look) Spacers, if I must use them, so be it. And he will be lowered eventually. Not right away but not too far down the track. a few inches max.
If as I suspect the tires are not right, what tire size would be a good choice?
Yeah I call my datto 'he' his name is Miles cause his Speedo is still in MPH :)
Cheers in advance Troy

175 60 or 175 65 14 is a cood sized tyre similar to oem rolling diameter. can be had cheaply new or 2nd hand as they are on echos, yaris and jazz.
there are some 185 60 14 as well but depening on offset of rims may foul and they are pretty big profile that will increase rolling diameter a fair bit.

bigger rolling diameter will put my speedo/gearing out of whack?
He is a 5 speed if that matters (not sure what gearbox, he has an a12 still. I pick him up in April, I can confirm the gearbox type then)

I know where your coming from! I joined here recently as a Datsun newbie. Trust me, this site is a goldmine in Datsun intelligence. You won't be dissapointed. The larger diameter only makes a slight difference in the speedo. What you really would want to do is get a GPS and ride along just to get an idea of what it really does. As far as the transmission, I believe they had a 56 series? But I'm not entirely sure. As I said, I am just a newbie like you :P
