i have a datsun ute and am thinking about re painting it. just wondering how i should do it. what type of sander i should use and what grit of sand paper i should use. i was going to go back to bare metal and prob cut out all the rust while im at it. what should i do to fill in the holes. My old man is a boiler makers/welder so should i just get him to weld them up with a mig? does anyone know roughly how much it would cost to get this done professionally? just so i can have the satisfaction of know how much i am saving.

many thanks for all help

A pro job would be a small fortune I imagine $5000+

80 grit will take it back to bare metal ready for etch primer pretty good.

A lot of people use mig for body work, will get it done.

Hi fill/build primer will hide most of your mistakes.

A polisher probably would be OK to sand with, or even a random orbital sander - good old Google has a lot to say about bodywork.

do i want to use a less rough grit sand paper first or after or at all while sanding it back?

if im going to buy a sander to do this with should i purchase an orbital sander or a belt sander. is an orbital sander a dual action sander?
