Hey guys
I have a mate who's got a wrecking bussiness
and he said he has a j15 and I have a datsun 120y

what I would like to know is
what is it out of?
Any good?
And how much is involved in getting it. Into my 120y
(will it bolt straight in?)

A J15 is no good for your 120Y, unless you want to go slower, less reliably.

The J series is a fair bit older than the A series.
It's roughly based off the Morris/Austin A series.

You want to find a A15.

Cheers
Dave

j series is off the 520 to 620 series utes...they are good for torque but no power...they also got used for forklifts....good motors for farm hacks as they last forever but if you want more power L series is the way to go if you want to stay with the datsun family

Its value would be about $25/ton. [EDIT. A J15]

These are actually good reliable engines as long as they are suitably maintained, but sadly they are heavy by modern standards & provide a ummmm, errrrr ahhhhhh, .....'dignified' performance.

These are great for your P310 or P311 restoration which originally came with a similar engine of 1200cc but not so hot for use in a Datsun 1200.
