can anybody help me with the following mechanical problem before i waste anymore money on replacing parts that aren't broken. my wifes 2002 nissan pathfinder started stuttering then 2 kms down the road stopped. idles fine in neutral, whack to full throttle in neutral really quickly or put it under load and it dies off. when it completly stops , it then seconds later farts out the intake a couple of times as if its running backwards, bizzar. I thought fuel delivery problem so replaced filter which was rooted and pump which didn't help the problem. Maybe fuel pressure regulator or am i looking in the wrong place, timing? Map sensor? any help would be muchly appreciated , hope this is posted in the right place

Cheers

cheers. I'll find a timing light and check it out. haven't had anything to do with electronic distributors, so i'll see how it goes.

Just re-read your thread properly (sorry I was in a rush), if you haven't messed with any settings then maybe timing is not the problem, best to check it though.
EFI motor, could be quite a few things or as simple as a dodgy earth wire.

Kind of sounds like blocked injector/s or some sort of fuel delivery problem but one bad or loose wire to a sensor could cause dramas like that, I haven't touched EFI for about 10 years and I'm no mechanic so just guessing really.

well it ended up being ignition coil. actually stopped working altogether, had no spark so started at spark plugs and worked back till problem was found.
