a14 vs a15 different piston ring sizes???

Hi all, was putting together an a15 bottom end and got to the top ring and found it doesn't fit! its too thick

are there different part numbers i should be aware of? they fit the a14 pistons not the a15

Yes there are several different A15 pistons from the factory. Also the ring designs were changed at least once.

You wanna make sure you buy rings to suit your pistons. I once bought rings for my A15, and they asked me for the bore size. (It was 1mm over I think) They gave me the rings, and after I killed the motor I found that the rings they'd given me were 1.5mm, in a 2mm groove. (I got someone else to fit them to the pistons for me, and they didn't check them)

So now I always order rings with the thickness of my grooves. Not just by engine model. (Working at a parts shop doesn't mean they know anything!)
