I have a 120y coupe and the problem is, the rear axle is covered full of gunk
and my question is how hard would it be to replace the whole rear axle from a later model
can i get a list of later model axles that bolt straight in?

or would it be easier to replace the diff centre?
i also would like to keep the h145 prop shafte flange
My coupe has the H145 rear axle i think

covered as in the whole pumpkin is in a thick layer of hard crusty oil
so indefinately there was a leak before i got the car and the prev owner did nothing about it
therefore i'm guessing the damage has already been done hence the differential noise

you could still get away with just replacing the center, the wheel bearings arent supposed to get the diff oil so they're most likely fine. Give it a good degrease and hosedown, you might be able to see any points of damage like missing gasket sections or whatever

how would i go about replacing this diff center, and what would i be able to upgrade it to a later model (which bolts straight in?)
do you just take the wheels off, loosen the drum bolts?, and pull the drum out a bit then loosen the pumpkin and replace?
or can i get away with just pulling the pumpkin out and replacing it
i've never worked with differentials so i don't know

You need to buy a workshop manual and read it before you cost yourself a small fortune.
