Years of 8000+rpm came to an end... I opened the motor due to dropped compression on NO2, kept driving the car for 3 weeks (i do about 90km a day)till I had a spare bottom end ready to go, was expecting a cracked ring but was a touch confuzed as there was no blow by or anything... car ran 100%, plugs looked fine, just much lower comp on NO:2

Opened the motor to find this,,, one nicely bent rod, and its been bent like this for some time by looking at the carbon ring on the bore... hats off to Datsun! even as a mech engineer, i was never expecting somthing like this due to how well she was still going, Piston was 10mm below deck!

So it didn't really FAIL did it.

'one nicely bent rod' - it certainly is! did it even look like it was about to break?

Where the rods prepped Rezlo? Its no fail at all by the sounds of it,
everything is still fine inside.
If the rods a little beefier from Nissan or where aftermarket items,
The A would be seriously bullet proof.

Compare the ca18et rods to det (the et look like the a series)
The factory DET rods are definitely stronger than A series.

Yep,the A-series just keeps on running when lesser engines stop with a bang.

All you have to do now, is to bend the other 3 to match, and then your ready to turbo the engine. IMO it's not quite a FAIL as yet......
