hey guys just wondering what it would be worth to bring a car more than 30 years old from america to australia(car approx value $5000) ? has anybody done it?

Also on what parts and extras are in it
Also on the modifications done to the car

Basically you buy the car... get all the numbers off it
Apply for an import approval
When accepted you can put it on the boat
So basically you need a shipping agent that will store the car for you for as long as 2 mths while you wait for your approval

Then they ship.... when it arrives your customs clearing agent sends you a bill for the freight and GST and cleaning of the car ($250 rip off for making it dirtier than it was)
Then you get to take it home... on a tilt tray

My Caddy cost me just under $5k

If the car has been modified from stock.... you're going to have potential problems.. they are clamping down on mods atm that weren't completed before 1988 even on old cars

How'd you pull up this morning? I was pretty shaky, can't remember the end of the night.

I shipped my 1000 up to PNG for about $1800. I shipped it as 'break bulk' so it was on it's own on the deck with a tarp over it, I couldn't put it in a shipping container as it would have cost a fortune.

But I reckon you'd be looking at no less than AUD$4000. And brace yourself for some paperwork and office bullshit.

yea i was ok. only had 8 beam cans. not sure how aiden is feelig though lol.

Yeah when me old boss bought the GMC's in for Aussie conversions, $5000 ish was a pretty consistent figure.

hey mate if you need to get the car over and not in a hurry i can help you out me and my boss bring race cars over so can work somethin out if you want. from our experience the less you pay the longer it takes we've waited for up to 6 months for one container (if thats the way your goin) and make sure you know how much tax your paying if any and make sure the paper work is filled out properly, we got stung with a 28k gst bill because we didn't do the paper work properly
